Mission 23: July 16, 1944
After posting the mission log book I interviewed my dad. I had a lot of questions about the occurences and the people involved. Dad didn’t enter certain kinds of information in his mission log. He just kept to the facts. On the log I have created hyperlinks to the information below.
“To drop the bombs, the togglier (non-com) or bombardier (officer) flipped switches to drop the bombs. They could release them individually or all at once (salvo). One time a bombardier had his parachute harness catch on the salvo switch. They whole load (unarmed) fell over Paris. Another time, an unarmed bomb was dropped and went down the chimney of a paint factory. A worker was killed.”
