Mission 25: July 24, 1944
After posting the mission log book I interviewed my dad. I had a lot of questions about the occurances and the people involved. Dad didn’t enter certain kinds of information in his mission log. He just kept to the facts. On the log I have created hyperlinks to the information below.
“The pilot (Shepherd) and co-pilot (Lyons) were about to trade off control of the plane. When they do this there is a moment in time where they both have a hand on the controls at the same time. That was the moment when the flak broke the windshield causing cuts on their face and hands. They weren’t injured seriously and Lyons was the pilot the next day. Shepherd and Carlson took the next day off. That’s how Carlson fell behind in missions I guess.”
