Final Flight: Harold V. Aiken

Some sad news today. Harold V. Aiken has passed away.
crewHe was the co-pilot of the crew, that included my father, that flew the Southern Route to Stansted from the states. He was a member of the 495th bomb squadron. He received his commission and wings on 3 November 1943 and was married the same day.

His World War II military career took him to Europe to fly B26 bombers. During his honorable service as a First Lieutenant, he was awarded 13 Air Medals, one DFC and a Purple Heart.

His obituary can be found here.

My website has an article about him here;

He attended the September 2015 reunion of the 344th Bomb Group in St. Louis. It was Harold’s first reunion and he’d traveled there all by himself, in his early 90’s.
We will miss you “Lord” Harold.
