Raymond Jewett high School Graduate

Raymond J. (James) Jewett was born as Raymond James Borglum on 18 Jan 1920 at Hennepin County, Minnesota. His parents were James C. Borglum and Gertrude Jewett and he was their only child.

He changed his last name legally in 1941 prior to enlisting in the Army as an air cadet. He never married or had children as the accident took his life at 22 years of age. The pictures are provided by 2nd cousin 1x removed, and he is not forgotten.

December 28, 1942: The second casualty to the 344th Bomb Group happened the day of this movement December 28, 1942. At 2230 that evening four men of the group were reported missing on a routine flight from McDill field to Duncan Field Texas. Later determined as having crashed, the B-26 six carried to their deaths were: 2nd Lieutenant William A. Booth, Pilot; F/O Raymond J Jewett, Co-Pilot; 2nd Lieutenant Edward E. Stevens, Bombardier-Navigator; and S/Sgt. George A Kennedy, all of the 496th Bomb Squadron and two passengers; Major Joseph C Nate of the 20th bombardment wing and his wife 3rd Officer Elenor C.
